From Me:

I created this walk through to show everyone how to get through the missions with tombs. I didn't make this for people to ask me how to fix their technical difficulties. My game has NO glitches which means all the missions have worked fine for me, and everything was where and how it was supposed to be. PLEASE stop asking me how to fix these issues with your game.

Strange Noises in the Museum

Mission: Locate the source of the mysterious noises in the museum that are scaring off the guards.

Examine the hole in the wall. It is on the first floor of the museum.

It will unlock a hidden door.

Go down the hall, through the door, and down the stairs.

Pull the torch.

Push the statues onto the switches to open the door.

Examine the wall to open a hidden door.

Collect the treasure.

Pull the statue.

Examine the hole to unlock the door.

Nothing special in this room...

Go through the door.

There are 3 doors in this room. Only one is unlocked. Go through that one.

Collect the treasure from the chest.

I missed how this door is unlocked, but continue through the door to the immediate right. Leaving the room with the electric traps will open up a hidden door in that room leading to where you need to go to finish this mission.

Pull this statue out. It will make another floor switch appear.

Push the statue onto the floor switch to unlock the door.

Open the chest to make another floor switch appear.

Stand on the floor switch.

It unlocks this door.

When you enter this room and read the plaque on the wall, you will get another mission. ACCEPT THIS MISSION! Mourn the grave to open the hidden door. Examine the hole in the floor to retrieve the remains. How the man died and ended up in that tiny hole we may never know... Go down the stairs.

Collect the treasure. Go up the stairs.

Collect the treasure from the chest. Go up the stairs.

Use map view to find the graveyard. Examine the hole in the ground to unlock the middle room. Open the chest. Click and drag the remains from your inventory to the chest's inventory panel. Report in to your boss.

    6. If the hole is empty for you. Get your sim to walk up to the Egyptian exhibit on the second floor. All of a sudden the opportunities bar allows you to report in. I think it just means that you don't get that mission.

    7. Hi, I just figured out what is wrong with the mission, when you first get the mission you're just supposed to walk around in the upper floor where the egyptian display is. After this you have to go and report back. Then you get a mission to search another exhibit, NOW is the time when you should find the wall switch. Report back again and then he asks you to search the basement. After this you will get the remains and be able to put them to rest.

  2. Hi there.

My couple have almost finished the museum, but the secret door past the electricity trap didn't open into the last room after I opened the white chest (I also inspected the dark chest in the electricity trap room). The electricity trap changed halls, but the secret door didn't open, and it doesn't seem to be inspectable. Do you have any idea what I may have missed? Is there any chance I should have left something in one of the chests, or sat on a bench or something, because I can't seem to find any other interactions in the basement. No holes, no floor plates, nothing that wasn't already described in your walkthrough. *sigh* Anyway, my trip is over, but I'll check back here to see if you have any idea what the answer is. Thanks.

    Lee.

  3. Lee-

When I was doing this mission, the hidden door would open and close randomly by itself. My sim just had to wait until it opened again... I'll have another sim do this mission and get back to you if you are still having problems.

  4. For me, I read the plaque and inspected the hole and got the remains - then inspected the secret door (did not mourn) and got out just fine, but did not get the final step (to return the remains). I went to the graveyard and the middle chest was lit up like an objective, but nothing happened when I put the remains in. Took them out, went back to the museum, mourned, nothing. So I kept checking the adventure board and eventually got the opportunity (along with a second set of remains) and was able, at that point, to put the remains in the chest and complete the chain.

  5. Wow! This was incredibly helpful. I've searched and searched for good walkthroughs for Sims and couldn't find any. Thanks a bunch!

  7. LOL - my worst task with this adventure was working out how to place the remains in the cemetary (duh). Thanks for your blog - you are a star!

  8. on the eleventh screen down, there is a corridor with a locked door with things to collect inside...do you by any chance know how to open that door? I've tried everything i could think of from using the toilets to 'donating' goodies to the displays and it still stays locked! Any help would be appreciated :-)

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't think you can collect those things. I used the cheat and deleted the wall surrounding the area and I wasn't allowed to pick anything up.

    ReplyDelete
  10. what's the point of a locked chained door then? I really want those goodies ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  11. when i search the hole it says its empty!
    why??

    ReplyDelete
  12. I got into that locked chain door and got those relics once, but i can't remember how now:( I doremember i came to it through another hidden door that showed up right next to that chain door though. anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  13. the hole is empty! Is there anything I can do?
I already had to cancel the opportunity, but then I got it back, and I checked the hole again, but it still says it's empty!

    ReplyDelete
  14. FOR THOSE WHO INVESTIGATE THE HOLE AND ITS EMPTY: I had the same problem. But if you read the opportunity it says go to the Egyptian gallery of the museum and investigate, go there at night by the sacophagus and it will say to report in, then you have to go to the Chinese part of the museum at night and walk around, eventually you will get the opportunity to go to the basement.

    ReplyDelete
  15. FOR THOSE WHO INSPECT HOLE AND EMPTY: cont. Go and walk around the Egyptian part of the museum first, report in and then go to the Chinese eventually the hole in the wall at the beginning of this walkthrough will sparkle and then follow this walkthrough.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ok... So I've gone all through the underground part (the hole was empty, btw) and now I'm wandering around the Egyptian section, and still nothing's happening. What the crap???

    ReplyDelete
  17. This helped me tremendously. Now onto the next mission. Many thanks.

  18. The hole was empty for me too. I ended up reporting in on what I had found in the Chinese wing and then my sim was asked to investigate the sounds. I sent her back out to the museum, she mourned and read the plaque again and presto, the remains were there. It made me laugh cause it said that she had gotten a treasure, the remains of the curator.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Those who had the problem like Lee does, after finishing off the puzzle, just click on the tombstone to mourn and your sim will automatically go through the false wall.

  20. this guide totally saved my sanity. i sent my poor dude over to france twice to complete this task having got completely stuck. i then read this, found the answer with the lamp and i finished it.
thanks for writing a great and easy to follow guide. i'll probably use more of yours in the future if stuck.

can i be cheeky and ask if you know how to get the coins and investigate the sarcophagus in the egypt room in museum? thanks in case.

  21. THANK YOU!!!! I could not figure this out for the life of me!

  22. oh my gosh i'm so frutrasted,
the hole was empty for me,
so i read your advice, and went to the egypt section, REPORT IN, then went into the china section and decided to go down again to collect the remains. but now there's other explorers there for some reason, and because she's at the remains section and will not move from there, the door to that room keeps opening and closing... so i'm unable to walk through it to collect the reamins!!!

how do i stop the door from moving? i can't seem to get through that for some reason,
and when i try to go back up i can't coz there's a rope blocking me from returning to the musuem... HELP!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have a glitch in my game where I can't see stairs and fences. I have collected the remains, and want to leave but the door doesn't stop moving. Because I can't see the stairs, I can't leave up the stairs. Am I screwed, or is their something else I can do?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The door where to the room with the curator's remains just keeps opening and closing. :( Whenever I tell my sim to go through, she just gets flustered. Ant suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thank you for the help. The hole was empty and I was stumped on what to do. If it's empty for you, scroll up and read through what to do (report in, go to Chinese wing, etc).

  31. how do you get the remains into the sims invetory? i cant guess ill look somewhere else for the answer

  33. hi there, I feel a little bit stupid, cause I read all these advices, my hole was empty, so I went to the Egyptian part at night I stood againt the sarcophagus, but nothing happened!I have no idea how to report in, I tried also view at these sarcophagus, but still nothing..:( could anyone please help me?

  34. Let me start by saying, Wow! Your walkthroughs are fantastic! Thanks so much!!

I have had the same issues with not getting the REPORT IN option. I have had my Sim walk through, view every viewable item, even donated a few relics at around 830p and 130a and still am not getting the REPORT IN option.

    Help please!! Any ideas?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ok... after leaving the game and coming back to this Sim her Advture Tracker wish was to report in. The option just didn't pop up on the map shop. Do your "exploring" in the Egyptian Room in the wee hours and then check the Adventure Tracker. The wish will say Report In. Go to the Relics Merchant. When you click on them a Report In option is there. Return to Museum and do the same with the Chinese exhibit... you will be able to redo/restart the quest and the hole w/remains is no longer empty!

  36. Is there someway to cancel a mission? I am giving up on this one. Seriously its just impossible and by a landslide the most time intensive mission I have done I have spent 3 days in the museum. I have followed all the steps I can, did all the switches secret doors but I never have the option to report anything in still I periodically go back and chat with the woman but she never mentions the mission nor or there any option to report anything to her. I stand staring at the sarcophagi I have patrolled both the Egypt and China exhibits countless times. I have seen the gnome but I have no clue what good it does to see it since its not prompted anything. I even cheated to teleport into the area with the Sarcophagi but there's a light there and its blocking me from opening it. I even altered my Sim to give her the kleptomaniac trait hoping she'd steal the remains but she won't. I just can't get the remains. The hole is always empty, always. So how do I cancel the mission?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thank you so much!
This was a big help because I've been failing at this mission for too long ;)
Very good walkthrough and again: Thank you

  39. This walkthrough was really helpful to me, and I'm not sure what everyone else is doing wrong! My first attempt with your walkthrough was successful, so I'm wondering if there IS a particular thing you have to do to be able to complete the mission. Never mind, anyway, thank you for making these walkthroughs, they are all really good. Good luck to everyone who is struggling at the moment, I'm sure you'll be able to complete it eventually, sims 3 stuffs up sometimes!!!

  40. thanks, you helped me a lot with this mission!!!

  41. Question about the very first step of the chain. I am supposed to be hearing the sounds in the Egyptian section, but am hearing nothing. I've walked through the entire museum many times, focusing 90% of the time in the Egyptian section. I have viewed every item in that section and viewed the sarcophagus several times. I stood in the sarcophagus room for more than 20 real minutes and still nothing. I've done this day and night in the game. Any suggestions?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I can't find the remains. It keeps telling me the hole is empty. I already did the adventure with the Egypt exhibit and the Chinese one but now I have to put the remains in the cemetery but I don't even have the remains and I have no idea how to get them. HELP?

    ReplyDelete
  43. I was at the 'collect remains' bit, and they too were not in the hole. I did not get the 'REPORT IN' option, either. I have gone round the Chinese and Egyption section, with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

  45. I did everything until the final step.. I read the note, mourned, and the door opened.. i got a mission when i read it but did not have the option to accept it.. then i searched the hole and it was empty.. I thought my Sim already had the remains but there's nothing.. Please Tweet @BL_thepunkdish and I will follow you.. I'll also tweet "Thanks! RT @[Yourname] '[Your response]'" Thanks

  46. I had the same problem, the hole was empty. You need to go to Egyption room, teh go back to the camp site to talk the girl that gave you the quest, select REPORT IN, then go back to the museum and visit Chinese room, then go back to the camp site and REPORT IN to the same girl who originally gave you the quest (you do not report in the museum to nobody!!!). Go back to tomb, read the sign and mourn. You should get the quest about 'leaving remains' and agree. Unfortunately, you cannot complete quest until you come back on another vacation to France, than go down to tomb below museum, read sign on the wall, mourn and inspect that hole again. Remains should be there. You can place them at the cemetary in chest and report back.

    ReplyDelete
  47. you need to mourn the grave for a secret door to open if you aren't doing the mission.

  48. Thankyou for these guides!

  57. Okay, once and for all, here's what you do:

    1. Accept the adventure entitled "Trouble at the Museum"
    2. Report in.
    3. Go to the Museum. Go in the right hand entrance. Go to the second floor. Walk past the Egyptian stuff to the big sarcophagus.
    4. Report in.
    5. Go to the Museum. Go in the left hand entrance. Go to the second floor. Walk past the terra-cotta horses and soldiers to the lion statuette. Then hang a left and walk past the Egyptian display. Go down the stairs to the first floor.
    6. Follow the sparklies to the inspection hole on the wall. Inspect it and watch the hidden door open.
    7. Report in.
    8. Go to the Museum. Go in to the right hand entrance. inspect the hole again. Go through the hidden door. Go down to the basement. Go past the traps and secret doors to the tomb room.
    9. Follow the sparklies to the note on the wall. Read the note. Follow the sparklies to the inspection hole in the floor. Inspect it. You'll find the curator's remains.
    10. Mourn in front of the tombstone to open the exit door.
    11. Follow the passge to the Museum grounds.
    12. Go to the Cemetery. Go to the five tombs in the back.
    13. Go to the right-hand tomb. Open the chest. You'll find a heart-shaped keystone.
    14. To the right of the center tomb is an inspection hole. Inspect it.
    15. In the center tomb is a chest. Open it with the keystone. Hit the "Take All" button.
    16. Re-open the now empty chest. When its window opens, drag the curator's remains from your inventory to the chest's window. Close the window.
    17. Report in. All done and SM 2000 richer.
